Rotary Club of Battersea Park appeals for Christmas volunteers
People living in property to rent in Battersea are being invited to volunteer and help the local Rotary Club put on its Christmas Day lunch for 400 local pensioners.
For the 48th year running, the organisation is staging its annual meal in Battersea Park for elderly residents who would otherwise be spending the festive season on their own.
Each guest is collected from their home and driven to the park where they are treated to a heated marquee and a free meal with all the trimmings, entertained with live music and dancing and handed a present before being taken home.
To make the day a success, Wandsworth Council and the Rotary Club need people to give up just a little of their time helping out on Christmas Day.
William Gallagher, president of the Rotary Club of Battersea Park, said: "Volunteering for this annual event will help make Christmas Day really special for an elderly person and help spread the true spirit and message of Christmas."
Budding stars of stage and screen in the borough can enter this year's Young Performer competition at Tooting Hub on Thursday October 20th and Saturday October 29th at Battersea Arts Centre.
