Balham to benefit from £1.9 million improvements
People seeking flats to rent in Balham will see the area undergo a series of improvements thanks to a new £1.9 million funding award.
The money comes primarily from London mayor Boris Johnson's Outer London Fund and will be spent on a series of local projects in the town centre.
Among the initiatives that will be undertaken are improvements to Balham High Road's railway bridge and new signage, pedestrian improvements and community space enhancements, as well as various publicity campaigns and cultural events.
Local businesses and Wandsworth Council will also provide match funding to bolster the overall investment total, thus helping to significantly enhance Balham's main shopping district.
Regeneration spokesman James Cousins said: "The town centre has made terrific progress in recent years and we now have the funding to go a step further."
In total, £177 million has been allocated by Mayor Boris Johnson in the last week to bolster regeneration efforts across the capital.
