Active Wandsworth residents honoured
Active people living in or near to flats to rent in the London borough of Wandsworth have been honoured in an awards ceremony.
Those who have made an outstanding contribution to sport and physical activity in the area were given Active Wandsworth Awards.
The people who were honoured included local athletes, coaches, volunteers and teams.
Ernest Bevin Phoenix Judo Club received the title of Sports Club of the Year and Fabio Gouveia won the award for Young Volunteer of the Year.
According to the council, the winner of this last award has to have "made a valuable contribution that has made a difference in the community and provided opportunities for people to take part in sport and physical activity".
Neil Harrison of Spencer Cricket Club was named Coach of the Year for being "dedicated, hard-working and enthusiastic".
Wandsworth Council leader Edward Lister recently suggested that he wants to give his residents more opportunity to exercise outdoors by backing a campaign to shift Britain's clocks forward permanently and give the nation an extra hour of daylight.
