Wandsworth residents warned of email scam
Those living in property to rent in the London borough of Wandsworth are being warned to watch out for a sophisticated email scam.
Trading standards officers are advising residents to stay alert and not be fooled by scams which include fake photographs, bogus telephone numbers or even false certificates.
They warned that people living in flats to rent in the London borough of Wandsworth who fall victim to scams could give out information which leads to their bank accounts being emptied.
Councillor Sarah McDermott, the council's spokesperson on consumer protection, said: "The old adage that says 'if something looks too good to be true then it probably isn't true' sums this con trick up very well. I would advise anyone who receives this type of email to completely ignore it.
"People should certainly never give any sensitive personal information like bank account details or their date of birth to someone who approaches them out of the blue."
Recently, Wandsworth Council announced there will be no charges for people planning to host royal wedding street parties.
