Wandsworth property to rent: 'Free school' set to open
Families looking for property to rent in the London borough of Wandsworth may be buoyed by the news that a 'free school' will be opened in the area.
Wandsworth Council announced that it has agreed to buy the former Bolingbroke Hospital in Battersea from St George's NHS Trust so it can be transformed into a state secondary school by a local parents group.
Council leader Edward Lister said parents in property to rent in the London borough of Wandsworth and other forms of accommodation will be given the opportunity to have a greater say in their children's education through the new Bolingbroke Academy.
"We hope this will be the first of many free schools in our borough so local families have as many choices open to them as possible when their children reach school age," he commented.
When completed, Bolingbroke Academy will be one of the first schools to open up under new government rules that permit parents, teachers and other groups to launch schools without local authority controls.
Plans for the school state that it will aim to see at least 80 per cent of pupils achieve five or more GCSEs in grades of A* to C.
