Lambeth's primary schools receive a glowing report
property to rent in Lambeth has long been attractive to parents seeking the best education possible for their kids, as the borough is home to a number of top London schools.
Now a new report from inspectorate body Ofsted has confirmed that Lambeth is indeed one of the best places in the country for children to attend primary school.
Its report shows that 84 per cent of all primary school aged children in the borough attend an institution that's been rated good or outstanding.
This puts Lambeth in joint eighth place out of 150 local authority areas Nationwide, along with Stockport and Kingston upon Thames.
Its percentage compares to a figure of just 42 per cent in Coventry, which is the lowest performing area of the country according to the report.
And looking at the top performers, Lambeth doesn't have far to go until it is at their level. In Camden, which is top of the table, 92 per cent of children attend a good or outstanding primary school.
Of the other areas coming in slightly above Lambeth, six are located in London. They are Barnet, Richmond upon Thames, Islington, Harrow, Sutton and Wandsworth.
Commenting on Lambeth's success, Rachel Heywood, cabinet member for children and young people at Lambeth Council, said it is a "fantastic recognition" of the quality of the borough's schools.
"This shows that if you live in Lambeth, your child is more likely to go to a good or outstanding school than virtually anywhere else," she remarked.
"We all want our children to get the best possible opportunities and best start in life, and this proves that Lambeth's primary schools are among the best anywhere."
Ms Heywood also said that the local authority will continue to lobby the government to provide more places for children in schools in the borough as demand increases.
