Letting Agents in Stratford London E15
Area Comments
Energised by the rebuilding and development that's going on in preparation for the 2012 Olympics, but truthfully was well on the way in any case.
The days of Stratford being a slightly rundown East London borough are as over as the Stone Age. Even before the big push towards the Olympics and commensurate redevelopment, the facilities were improving drastically.
Whilst there's a massive amount of redevelopment going on in Stratford, you can still find good deals here. Property ranges from the old-style tower blocks, which compete for space with newer developments of top-notch apartments appealing to the city workers and Docklands employees looking for more foot space than they can get in town. There are great roads of little Victorian terraces which retain the area's 19th Century charm, whilst much larger Victorian houses are found in the Romford Road area - of course, with many now formed into flats.
Facilities in Stratford are of course going to be added to at an enormous pace as the capital gears up for the 2012 games. The area is just waiting for the high speed rail link to the Channel Tunnel to be opened (it's been built) which will make Stratford inextricably linked to the biggest engineering project in the world. Crossrail will link Stratford to the West. More DLR stations, more links to Kent and Southeast London, will see its popularity soar. Whilst there's already a good shopping centre, and excellent local stores in the area, the new Stratford City brownfield development is looking to develop a keystone shopping centre to rival Bluewater, as well as a vast housing project and more office space to transform the area into a service capital - though this isn't fully confirmed yet. But of course the main development is the preparation for the games themselves, which sees a new stadium, aquatics centre and velopark amongst other manifold benefits. The plans will leave Stratford with the largest urban park constructed in Europe for more than a century.
As well as its prodigious building plans Stratford is already a centre for other things. Culturally and educationally it's on the rise. East London University has a major campus here, with University House being a listed building. Birkbeck College is pushing courses in the area as well. Schools are getting better all the time and infrastructure is improving in leaps and bounds. The Theatre Royal Stratford East is one of the town's most striking buildings, and the Cultural Quarter has as well as the theatre other venues, as well as bars and cafes. More and more Stratford is becoming a truly modern London borough, comparable to Islington, Paddington Green, and others.
But still Stratford maintains its local feel, with its local shopping centre and outdoor market popular as ever. Time is changing the area into a truly modern (virtually futuristic) world - but Stratford is still a London borough and feels connected, friendly and bustling in that uniquely London way.
