Stratford set to become London's premier live music destination
Stratford's Olympic Park looks set to be given a new lease of life as a major live music destination, with the development likely to be welcomed by many local homes and businesses.
Over the summer of 2012, the Newham borough town was given a major boost by the Games, with tens of thousands of national and international visitors a day arriving.
Now, with the Olympics receding into memory, plans are in place to make the landmark Stratford stadium London's premier live music destination, replacing Hyde Park.
According to supporters of the plans, not only will what will become known as the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park be able to welcome just as many people as the city centre Royal Park, but, since there are no residential properties within close proximity of the venue, noise will not be such an issue.
Furthermore, the Evening Standard notes, concert promoters are impressed with the local infrastructure, including Stratford's impressive transport links to other parts of London, as well as its shops and amenities.
Speaking to BBC London, the head of the London Legacy Development Corporation, Dennis Hone, stated that the lien-up for a special concert aimed at marking the first anniversary of the Games will be announced within days.
"We have the opportunity to put on some major events in the park – some music events and festivals and an anniversary weekend on 27 and 28 July," he said.
At the same time, plans are also in place to host a summer 'cycle marathon' through the Olympic Park, with the 2013 event already attracting 50,000 sign-ups.
It is hoped that the 100-mile race will become a fixture on the London sporting calendar, giving riders the chance to tackle a course that will take them past some of the landmarks of the city's 'Golden Summer', including the aquatic centre and the Orbit Tower.
Meanwhile, the Stratford Westfield shopping centre, as well as the newly-landscaped Olympic Park itself, are also likely to carry on making Stratford an attractive destination for renters, with demand for rental accommodation in E15 set to remain high for the foreseeable future.
