Registration opens for Surrey Youth Games
Online registration is now open for the 2015 P&G Surrey Youth Games. This year’s events will take place on June 20th and 21st at the Surrey Sports Park in Guilford.
The games are designed to encourage young people, particularly those who aren’t currently involved in sport, to discover something that they are good at, and offer the opportunity for them to represent their borough.
This is of particular note for residents of Epsom and Ewell, as the borough team has achieved great success in previous years. In 2014, the team won the Highest Number of Entries Award and in 2013, won the prestigious Borough Trophy for the first time.
Free tryouts and training sessions will get underway after the Easter holidays. The only requirement for entry is to be a young person who lives or attends school in the borough, and to play your sport below county level.
The sports on offer include basketball, badminton, boccia, non-contact boxing, contact boxing, girls' cricket, girls' football, hockey, lacrosse, netball, girls' rugby, swimming, squash, table tennis and tennis. The new sport added for 2015 is touchtennis.
Jan Mason, chair of the Leisure Committee for Epsom and Ewell Borough Council, said: "The P&G Surrey Youth Games is a fun and inclusive way of encouraging people to take part in competitive sport. We hope this year more young people will register to take part to represent the Borough at this prestigious sporting event.
“It is a great opportunity for young people to try a new sport, or to improve their skills by taking part in high quality free coaching sessions. It is a great weekend for everyone and the young people really enjoy themselves, make new friends and get to try a sport that they may not have had a go at before.”
Young people will be coached by professionals with connections to local teams and clubs, to ensure that they have the opportunity to continue their sport after the games are over.
