Rail improvements to enhance capacity
Commuters in London are set to benefit from more frequent train services as a result of improvements that begin tomorrow, Transport for London (TFL) has stated.
A total of £326 million is to be invested in upgrades to the London Overground network, with longer platforms to be built at some stations.
The number of trains running at peak times on parts of the network will double to eight per hour, as TFL targets an increase in capacity ahead of the 2012 Olympics.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson remarked: "We are committed to maintaining the momentum of improvements to the infrastructure that will keep our great city one of the world's leading capitals."
Over 200 signals are due to be upgraded by Network Rail engineers, while 30 platforms will be extended in order to increase the number of carriages that can be used.
Transport secretary Geoff Hoon recently announced that an additional £54 million would be provided to double the number of rail tracks in the Camden area.
