Camden primary school gets new building
Demand for primary school places is increasing right across London and borough councils are doing everything they can to ensure that children have access to high quality education in their own area.
Camden Council is one such authority. It has just announced the opening of a new building for one of its most popular schools - Emmanuel Church of England primary.
Located on Mill Lane in West Hampstead, it caters for children aged four to 11 and has been rated outstanding by schools inspector Ofsted.
To provide additional places for children in Camden, a project was launched to replace the school's old building with a brand new structure with much greater capacity.
Previously, it was only able to take on 15 new children every year. However, it will now be able to take on double this amount, meaning that by 2017 it will be teaching 236 pupils.
Angela Mason, cabinet member for children at Camden Council, said the opening of the new building is great news for families living in the borough.
"I'm pleased we have been able to make such a positive move to help meet demand for primary school places, which is growing locally and nationally," she remarked.
"When the new school is full it will have more than double the amount of pupils that the old one did. It also has much more modern and extensive facilities than the old building could offer."
Pictures of these new facilities have been published on the school's website and they include a gym, various classrooms, a library, computer rooms, a music room, a reading area and plenty of outdoor playing space.
property to rent in West Hampstead is already highly sought after since there are a number of top schools in the area, and this expansion could attract even more families into the borough of Camden in the years to come.
