Camden: A lively and youthful place
An inner city district located in North-West London, Camden Town is 2.4 miles north-north-west of Charing Cross and is in the postcode district NW1.
Upmystreet.com's neighbourhood snapshot of the centre of Camden Town states that the average family income of those living in the area is medium and the interest in current affairs is high.
A low percentage of the houses are owned by those with a mortgage, so there is plenty of opportunity for those looking for property to rent in the area.
Of those living in Camden Town, a high proportion is educated to a degree level and not very many are couples with children - most are young workers who live in flats.
Transport
Car ownership among the people living in the area is low as they live close to the centre of activity, so residents rely heavily on public transport.
A London Overground station - Camden Road - is located at the corner of Royal College Street and Camden Road and St Pancras and Euston terminals are both just a 20-minute walk from the town.
Camden Town Underground Station is located near to the area's popular markets. It is on the Northern Line, which also services Tottenham Court Road and Leicester Square.
Thirteen bus routes run through Camden Town during the day and 14 at night, including the 124 from Grosvenor Road to the Royal Free Hospital.
Schools
There are five primary schools within a 1.5 mile radius of the NW1 postcode area.
These are Christ Church School, North Bridge House Preparatory School, The Primary Learning Support Service, Richard Cobden Primary School and Cavendish School.
Of the pupils at Christ Church School who took their Key Stage 2 Sats tests last year, 84 per cent achieved a Level 4 and above in English, 80 per cent in maths and 82 per cent in science.
Five secondary schools are within a 0.75 mile radius of the NW1 postcode area, including North Bridge House Senior School and South Camden Community School.
In 2010, 94 per cent of Year 11 pupils at North Bridge House Senior School achieved five A* - C grades in their GCSE exams, which is considerably higher than the national average of 51 per cent.
Things to do
People who move to property to rent in Camden Town will never run out of things to do.
It is a vibrant town that features a famous market, selling clothes, jewellery and one-off gifts.
There are a number of live music venues in the area along with a variety of great pubs and clubs, such as the World's End, which is near Camden Town Tube station.
People who prefer to spend their time in quieter venues can enjoy visits to the St Pancras Old Church, St Michael's Church and the Camden Catacombs.
The Jewish Museum is also located in Camden Town, boasting a large collection of Jewish ceremonial art.
One of its collections, titled Judaism: A Living Faith, has been awarded "designated" status by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council in recognition of its national importance.
It also includes a Holocaust Gallery and exhibitions relating to the history of Jewish life in England.
Arts lovers are also catered for at the Roundhouse Theatre on Chalk Farm Road, which used to be a steam engine repair shed.
As well as staging theatre productions, it is a live music venue, soon (May-June 2011) set to be visited by Belle and Sebastian, The Kills and Moby.
Overall, Camden Town is a great place to live if you are looking for property to rent in an area that has good transport links, a vibrant nightlife and plenty to do and see on a weekend.
