Olympic handover for Hackney Borough
Residents of Hackney Borough celebrated on Sunday (August 25th) after the Olympic Handover held a party in Shoreditch Park.
The event marked the day that London became the official host city of the 2012 Olympic Games, with the borough of Hackney due to host one third of the Olympic Site.
Hackney Borough's involvement in the games is likely to see an influx of people looking for property to rent in London.
Jules Pipe, mayor of Hackney Borough, said: "I'm delighted so many residents came out to celebrate together London becoming the official host city of the 2012 games.
"Hackney is at the heart of where the [Olympic] Games will happen and my focus is now, more than ever, firmly fixed on maximising the benefits for our residents."
The six hour event included sprint competitions to find Hackney Borough's fastest man, woman and child as well as arts, crafts and activities.
Research by mform.co.uk has revealed that the average price of homes in London is now £345,000, with some properties requiring deposits of up to £70,000.
