New study hails quality of Redbridge schools
People occupying flats to rent in Redbridge are benefiting from some of the best-quality state education in the country.
This is according to a report from thinktank CentreForum, which has listed the local authority as the fourth most over-performing council in terms of school quality, based on recent GCSE results data.
In 2011, 68.5 per cent of Redbridge students achieving five A star to C grades at GCSE, including English and mathematics, which was almost ten per cent above the national average.
Meanwhile, the performance gap between disadvantaged students - such as those on free school meals - and other pupils was shown to be 5.1 per cent narrower in Redbridge than other parts of England.
Alan Weinberg, cabinet member for children's services at Redbridge, said: "We strive to give our young people the best possible education whatever background they are from and I'm pleased this has been highlighted."
Last week, the council offered local schools a grant of up to £1,000 to run events or projects to mark the national Climate Week scheme, which takes place in March 2012.
