Hackney Council celebrates its green spaces
One of the nicest things about Hackney is the abundance of green spaces in the area.
Among the better known parks in the the borough is Clissold Park. This month, Hackney Council announced that it welcomed millions of visitors through its gates in the past 12 months.
The council used counters to measure the amount of visitors who frequented the park and found that the three millionth visitor landmark was reached earlier this month.
Within the park is the grade II listed Clissold House, which has been a popular venue for couples. This year, the venue will celebrate 125 years since being opened up to the public.
To mark the event, the local authority will be hosting a summer celebration entitled 'Clissold 125' which is planned by the Clissold Park User Group.
On June 21st, there will be a party in the park, which will pay homage to the historic location.
Commenting on the developments, Kim Wright, Hackney Council's corporate director of health and community services, said: "Hackney has stunning, high quality green spaces and Clissold Park has again proved its lasting popularity.
"It is also a very special year for the park and we are delighted to be working with the Park User group on a series of events and improvements to celebrate its 125th anniversary."
The council also announced their intention to make improvements to the park. This will include modifications made to the fountain in the area, and work on a new Clissold Park tennis clubhouse.
This clubhouse will include office space, meeting rooms, a small tennis shop, a kitchen and changing facilities, which are expected to be completed by next summer.
In addition, new facilities will be built, including children's play areas, sports courts and a food growing area.
At the same time, the metal bridge across the New River is also being refurbished.
