Enfield residents invited to new leisure centre open weekend
Southgate Leisure Centre in the London borough of Enfield reopened to the public earlier this month following an extensive renovation project, and now local people are being invited in to see the results for themselves at an open weekend to be held on November 17th and 18th.
Some £5.5 million was invested in the facility by Enfield Council in partnership with sport and leisure management charity Fusion Lifestyle, and a host of improvements have been made.
These include a 95-station gym, two new fitness studios, an indoor cycle studio and a new activity room, as well as bigger car parking facilities, a revamped reception and a cafe with poolside views.
Changes have also been made to the building itself to make it more environmentally friendly, with a living roof taking pride of place on the newly built section of the centre.
Various grasses and plants will be planted on it to reduce the amount of rain water going to drainage and help to cut the site's carbon footprint.
During both open days visitors will be able to try a range of activities between the hours of 10am and 4pm, including gym tours and trials, group exercise classes and swimming sessions.
They will also be able to take advantage of some great membership deals, which may be an attractive proposition for tenants who've recently moved in to flats to rent in Southgate, as well as those who have lived in the area for a while.
Bambos Charalambous from Enfield Council said: "The redevelopment of Southgate Leisure Centre has been a huge project, but we’re extremely impressed by the transformation that has taken place and very proud of the high standard of facilities now available to visitors.
"I'd encourage Enfield residents to take advantage of the upcoming open weekend to see for themselves what the centre has to offer."
He added: "The centre not only has improved fitness and swimming facilities, but a great cafe, and larger parking facilities, vital in Southgate. It's a superb centre which has something for everyone."
