Tenants 'should keep homes secure'
People who leave their homes unoccupied for extended periods of time may unknowingly be invalidating their insurance, it has been claimed.
According to Sainsbury's Finance, over a third of home insurance policies do not cover a property if the householder is absent for more than 30 days.
People looking for flats to rent in Notting Hill or another part of London may wish to keep this in mind if they plan to travel for work or take a prolonged holiday.
The group also asserted 4.1 million Brits are jetting off for extended breaks of at least 30 days or more over the next 12 months.
Should they be burgled while they are away, the firm warns that 36 per cent of policies will not see them covered.
Ben Tyte, Sainsbury's home insurance manager, said: "We would advise anyone who is planning such a break to inform their home insurance provider and check that they are still covered by their policy whilst they are away."
The Co-operative Insurance recently advised checking a home's fire and carbon monoxide alarms before going away.
