Islington energy scheme 'saving thousands of pounds'
Individuals living in property to rent in Islington will be warmer this winter thanks to an energy saving scheme being trialled in Archway.
The Archway Low Carbon Zone (LCZ) initiative will provide insulation and home energy checks to homeowners and renters, as well as energy saving light bulbs to small businesses and schools.
Funded by the Mayor of London's office, the LCZ programme has been put to the test in ten locations across the capital since its launch in 2009.
With a year to go, the Archway LCZ has saved more than 2,900 tonnes of CO2 and should cut a total of a total of £322,000 from residents' fuel bills this winter.
Councillor Paul Smith, executive member for environment on Islington Council, said:
"We are on the side of residents so this no frills scheme making warmer homes and putting money back in peoples' pockets is precisely what we mean by helping make Islington a fairer place.
"The enthusiasm for the scheme and the progress we've made, means more people will be warmer this winter," he added.
Last month, Islington residents were invited to take part in the borough's biggest ever housing survey.
