Islington Council helps fund residents' parties
Those living in property to rent in the London borough of Islington who are part of certain community groups are being given funding for parties to celebrate the royal wedding.
The council has awarded four grants in total for wedding-related festivities on April 29th.
One of these is an estate party, one is a street party and the other two are a community fete and a garden party.
Councillor Catherine West, leader of Islington Council, said: "Many people in our community will be celebrating the royal wedding and we are supporting the hard work they've put in."
She went on to say that the council has not stopped at issuing these grants, but has also scrapped charges for road closures on the big day.
Earlier this month, Islington Council received £3.7 million of the government's New Homes Bonus fund.
The council hopes that nearly 1,000 new affordable units will be completed in 2011/12, many of which may be turned into property to rent.
