'Important' to become more energy efficient
Britons who rent property may feel that there is less they can do to increase their energy efficiency as they do not own their home.
However, the Guardian has claimed that there are plenty of jobs that can be carried out around the home, no matter what its size or household budget.
The newspaper recommended taking the time to get additional use out of their belongings, such as by using plastic takeaway containers to store food and looking for schemes online to help find a home for any unwanted furniture or electrical appliances.
"Maximise the fixtures and appliances you already have at home - use blinds to direct sunlight upward into rooms, reducing the need for central heating," the Guardian added.
The newspaper went on to advise Britons to look out for alternative recycling schemes in their area.
Such recommendations may prove useful to people looking for flats to rent in Notting Hill or another part of London once they move in, should they be keen to keep their energy bills to a minimum.
And they may also wish to check out the Energy Performance Certificate for their property to get an idea of how much it will cost to run.
