'Don't leave presents at risk' this Christmas
This Christmas, a total of £18 billion worth of presents will be left on show in households around the country, which may mean that tenants could be wise to purchase home contents insurance.
According to Direct Line, with the average consumer set to spend some £363 on gifts this year, should a burglar break in they could have an expensive haul on their hands.
However, one in four people store their presents under the tree, despite this being the first place a thief will look, according to the insurance provider.
Furthermore, 74 per cent keep them in a wardrobe or cupboard which is not secure.
While a person looking for flats to rent in Islington may have the peace of mind that their landlord is covered by buildings insurance, they may wish to take out additional cover for their own belongings.
Furthermore, taking simple steps such as hiding gifts securely out of sight could be an advisable move this Christmas.
