Divorce case wife renting London property
As one of the most expensive UK divorce battles continues, one woman has been forced to downgrade from the property she previously rented in London.
Michelle Young, 45, has been evicted from the three-bedroom property she used to rent in Regent's Park, in favour of a three-bedroom home in St John's Wood.
She split from her husband John in 2006 but he claims to have lost his fortune, leaving him in millions of pounds of debt, meaning he is unable to pay his wife half.
However, at a recent eviction hearing, lawyer Felix Geiringer said: "The fact that she continues to wish to live in a £8,666-a-month rented house, places her children in the most expensive schools, comes to court dressed in very fine clothes, the fact that she makes these choices does not bring her within the realm of exceptional hardship."
There is property to rent in Notting Hill and other areas of London to suit any budget and Britons may find that this proves cheaper than buying.
Zoopla.co.uk recently revealed that 57 per cent of the UK's £1 million properties are located in London.
