Could renting offer solution to couples at war?
Across the country, couples at war and continuing to live under one roof due to the shortage of affordable housing the UK has to offer, new research has revealed.
According to Shelter, 9.9 million adults have claimed that either they or someone they know are still living with a partner, despite going through a separation or divorce, as they cannot afford to live alone.
While traditionally, couples who felt it was the end of the road for their relationship would see one of the couple move out, today this is less of a reality due to the high cost of housing, the group asserted.
Kay Boycott, director of policy and campaigns at Shelter, said: "Unfortunately relationships do break down which is painful enough, but being forced to carry on living with an ex-partner, even for a short time, must add real pressure to the situation."
However, flats to rent in Islington or another part of London could offer a solution to this dilemma.
Typically, rental opportunities in the capital are cheaper than property for sale, which could see warring couples able to split before the going gets really tough.
