Southall Gas Works mini-town gets go ahead
Proposals to create a mini-village on the site of Southall Gas Works have been approved by the mayor of London.
The project will involve the building of 3,750 homes in the area as well as new leisure and recreational facilities for the local community.
After giving the go-ahead to the proposals, Mayor Boris Johnson stressed the importance of modernising a key area of the city, the Uxbridge Gazette reported.
He said: "West London is an important driver for the capital's entire economy and within a decade it will become one of the best-connected regions in the UK with the arrival of Crossrail."
Mr Johnson also suggested that failure to give the application the green light could have been "detrimental to the future economic prosperity" of Southall and its surrounding area.
This follows a major regeneration project at Brent Cross and similarly extensive development in Vauxhall, which the mayor hopes will bring economic growth and tens of thousands of jobs to the capital.
The investment in infrastructure as well as the building of new leisure and recreational facilities may excite people looking for property to rent in the London borough of Ealing, or other neighbouring areas.
