Over-60s in Tower Hamlets set to benefit from £1 swimming sessions
Residents aged 60 and over who are living in property to rent in the London borough of Tower Hamlets are among those set to benefit from cheaper swimming sessions.
Older people will now be able to dive in and take advantage of off-peak sessions at local pools for just £1.
The aim is for Tower Hamlets Council and the council's not-for-profit leisure operator, GLL, to help more older residents get active.
Mile End Park Leisure Centre in Burdett Road, Tiller Leisure Centre in Tilller Road, St Georges Pools on the Highway and York Hall Leisure Centre in Old Ford Road are the pools which are taking part in the initiative.
"We want our residents to be as fit and healthy as possible ... Despite the cuts we are committed to supporting people lead healthier lifestyles," said councillor Rania Khan, lead member for culture.
Recently, sports clubs and community groups in the borough were told they can apply for Freesport grants, which will help provide free coaching in plenty of different activities, such as swimming and football.
