Enfield awards show off its parks
It has been announced that the borough of Enfield has some of the best parks in the UK. Eight of the parks in the borough have received 'Green Flags' after being judged to have incredibly high standards of safety, cleanliness and attractiveness.
Jubilee, Town, Pymmes, Oakwood, Trent, Bush Hill, Forty Hall and Grovelands Parks have all received the accolade that shows they are some of the best quality outdoor areas in the country. The parks were previously awarded Green Flags and have managed to maintain consistent high standards in order to retain the awards. Local communities have helped to keep the parks clean and looking good.
Councillor Chris Bond, the cabinet member for Environment for Enfield Council, said that he was "delighted" that the parks have received the recognition they deserve. Enfield has retained its reputation as one of London's greenest boroughs and has some beautifully maintained outdoor areas, he continued.
Mr Bond said: “We have some fantastic green spaces in Enfield and it’s not hard to see how popular and valued they are.
“We have been working very hard with Friends of Parks groups to ensure we retain our Green Flag standard. Being awarded Green Flag in the first place is a huge achievement, but with the criteria so challenging, retaining them from year to year is just as impressive."
In order to receive and then maintain Green Flag Awards, parks must continue to meet with high standards. The awards represent the national standard for recreational parks throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The system in which the awards are given encourages local authorities and communities to continue giving a high standard of care to any parkland areas.
"In common with many other local authorities our parks service has had to make savings because of the national financial situation and it’s a testament to the dedication of our friends groups and parks staff that we've been able to maintain our excellent standards in these parks," continued Mr Bond.
