Tottenham to welcome Chipmunk for Christmas light switch-on
People occupying flats to rent in Tottenham will be able to see local rap superstar Chipmunk switching on the Christmas lights this year.
The star is appearing at the annual festive event on Tottenham Green as the local authority looks to build on the success of the recent I Love Tottenham campaign, which aims to foster community spirit in the area.
Chipmunk hails from Tottenham and attended the local Gladesmore Community School, with the award-winning songwriter stating that pride in his local area was a big motivating factor in agreeing to appear for the switch-on.
"It is always nice to be asked to switch on the Christmas lights anywhere, but when it's for your home town it is truly an honour," he said.
The star will be greeting crowds on November 25th 2011 as part of an event that will also include carol singing, marking the start of the festive season.
As part of I Love Tottenham, Haringey Council is also making numerous local car parks free to use over Christmas, a move that is designed to help promote town centre businesses.
