Residents in flats to rent in Ealing could help their community
People occupying flats to rent in the London borough of Ealing may choose to step up their recycling effort in a bid to help their electoral ward gain some extra finance.
Ealing Council's Recycling Reward programme is the first of its kind in London and will see £80,000 distributed among different parts of the borough.
The area that records the highest numbers of people recycling and the three districts that report the greatest improvement in rates will be awarded £20,000 each.
Cabinet member for transport and environment councillor Bassam Mahfouz said: "We all know recycling is so important and we want to show our support for those who take the effort by rewarding those communities with money for projects."
He added people already using their green box are being encouraged to find other ways to be eco-friendly by using different means to recycle food and plastics.
On average, a UK household will produce in excess of one tonne of waste each year and over every eight month period the country generates enough rubbish to fill Lake Windermere.
