Newham residents invited to Under the Stars concerts
Residents of the borough of Newham are being given the opportunity to enjoy free music concerts for four nights from August 15th. Locals can take advantage of the variety of performances that will be taking place during the 'Under the Stars' summer concerts at East Ham's Central park.
The musical extravaganza will include a wide range of different musical styles, from Asian, to jazz to 70s pop. The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will also be performing during a firework display. The Newham Council event hopes to offer something for everyone over the course of several summer evenings.
The concerts will be beginning at 6.30pm from August 15th to 19th, with the entrance on High Street South. People are advised to utilise public transport to get to the concert, as there are no parking amenities.
Residents were given the opportunity throughout the last few months to vote on the final piece of music that will be played at Under the Stars and selected Brahms' Hungarian March No.5. As well as this performance, residents will also be able to enjoy music from The Brand New Heavies, Incognito and Taz Stereo Nation. Several DJs will have sets on different nights and a fire show will also be performed.
The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will be playing on the last evening, which will also feature a performance by Newham schoolchildren through the Every Child a Musician programme. The children will be performing a piece especially for the event called 'Summer Starz'.
Sir Robin Wales, the mayor of Newham, said: “This year’s amazing line-up includes something for everyone. Under the Stars is always a wonderfully good spirited event when residents sing and dance the night away together. Best of all it’s all completely free!
“We invite people to bring a picnic, invite friends and family and have an unforgettable time. We hope everyone has a good time. It promises to be another sparkling four nights and we will continue to create opportunities for our community to do things together for free.”
