New transport changes introduced in Ealing
A new traffic system is set to transform travel in Ealing, after it was revealed that work on the Southall Broadway is expected to be complete by Christmas.
By that time, the road will be able to open up to two-way traffic, helping to ease some of the problems seen in the area recently.
Ealing Council revealed that problems were seen in the neighbouring borough of Hounslow, which led to heavy traffic on Western Road.
It said delays were caused by signal failures linked to the recently opened Costco retail development on Hayes Road.
After collaboration between Ealing Council and Transport for London, a number of signalling changes will be introduced in Hounslow later this week.
This, along with the new traffic system, is expected to dramatically improve traffic flows in Southall and shorten delays through Ealing, making it easier for both residents and businesses.
Commenting on the scheme, councillor Julian Bell, leader of Ealing Council, said: “We are working together with the surrounding boroughs to alleviate the pressures in Southall as well as delivering long-term improvements to the area. We want to thank people for their patience while we continue to transform The Broadway into a safe environment for pedestrians and a high quality shopping area with more space.”
The work will include installing an adaptive traffic light system. The council hopes this will improve congestion by an average of 20 per cent by using on-street detectors to automatically respond to fluctuations in traffic flows.
