New figures show UK property price rise during 2009
Property prices increased in the UK last year, according to new figures.
Data from international commercial and residential Estate Agents Knight Frank revealed a 3.4 per cent rise in the cost of home in Britain over the 12 months of 2009.
Liam Bailey, Knight Frank's head of residential research, hinted that although there were positive figures for some countries, a worldwide recovery remains "somewhat shaky".
He added: "Large question marks still hanging over a number economies, particularly in Europe, as the true impact of the credit crunch continues to unravel. We should not take anything for granted, yet."
This follows comments from Brian Berry, the director of external affairs at Federation of Master Builders, who called for more action to address mortgage liquidity to help boost the market in Britain.
News of an increase in prices, combined with ongoing difficulties for first-time buyers in securing mortgage credit and saving for a deposit, may encourage more people to look for property to rent in the London borough of Barking and Dagenham, or elsewhere in the UK, instead.
