Museum area set for enhancement
The museums area of Kensington is set to see a major enhancement after a £30 million scheme was given the green light.
Councillors have backed a project that will see the unwinding of a one-way road system around South Kensington Tube station, followed by the creation of a shared space for cars and pedestrians, the Evening Standard reports.
These moves, along with improvements to the Tube station's exit tunnel, are intended to improve access to museums in the vicinity, such as the Victoria and Albert, Science and Natural History museums.
Deputy leader of the council, Daniel Moyland told the paper: "It is a very, very significant step in us pushing this forward. The one-way system was put in the sixties and has blighted the area."
The changes could help enhance the vicinity for locals living there, something that may attract those thinking of renting in the borough of Kensington & Chelsea.
In another story from the Standard this week that may lead to improvements in the area, it was revealed that two buildings in Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park have been put up for sale, which could see them become galleries or cookery schools.
