Flats to rent in London 'can still be eco-friendly'
Eco-conscious Brits looking at flats to rent in the London borough of Kensington & Chelsea are still able to put their green stamp on the property, it has been claimed.
Writing for G Online, Jill McCann explained that renters can make alterations to a home as long as they are not permanent or do not change the fixtures.
She suggested insulating glass doors, windows and skylights with bubble wrap or cling film to make a flat more environmentally-friendly.
Energy-efficient light bulbs or blackout curtains are a few other ideas, while layering aluminium foil along a windowsill can help to trap reflected heat, thus keeping a room warmer, Ms McCann continued.
Some landlords install halogen down-lights in a property's living space, the expert noted.
"Pick up a few lamps from your local council clean-up or op shop, fit them with energy-efficient light globes and go for mood lighting instead," she advised.
Last week, the London borough of Kensington & Chelsea was named as the greenest part of the city in June's Green Corners Awards by the Conservation Foundation.
