Flats for rent in Ealing may be popular as cinema plans advance
Those seeking property to rent in the London borough of Ealing may soon be able to enjoy more local entertainment with plans under way to restore an old cinema in the area.
Development firm Empire has owned the site where it has proposed to build a cinema for two years without clarifying its plans, but following a display of people power, it has now confirmed it has sought and gained planning permission for the facility, Ealing Today reports.
It has written to local campaigner Akwal Johal explaining its intentions, with operations director Paul Baxter stating: ''If the build goes to plan then we would expect to open late 2012.''
Mr Johal said local residents will keep up the "pressure" to ensure the currently derelict site on Ealing Broadway becomes a new picture house.
Ealing may also appeal to the eco-conscious, as the council has revealed it has become one of the top ten in the country for reducing household waste, with this down eight per cent on last year.
