East Ham customer centre to get £12m refurbishment
A new customer service centre and library building is to be created in East Ham.
The £12 million facility will be constructed by Bam and is part of a regeneration project in the borough of Newham. Under the terms of the £20.8 million East Ham Civic Campus scheme, East Ham Town Hall is going to be refurbished and a disused technical college will be renovated and turned into offices.
Once the development has been completed, the area will be able to offer a better range of services to the local community, which may encourage people to have a look at property to rent in East Ham.
Bam has linked up with Newham Council and English Heritage to ensure the plans for alteration work on the Grade 2 buildings are acceptable. The project is expected to be completed by autumn 2013 and it is hoped it will really freshen up the area.
Construction director at the group Andy Mason remarked: "Bam is very pleased to be delivering these important facilities for Newham Council. A great deal of work was required from all parties to make this scheme a reality and Bam is delighted to have played its part in making that happen. We look forward to creating some excellent facilities for council staff and local residents."
It is not the only London-based project Bam is involved in. The firm is also taking part in the delivery of a £23 million scheme in the Regent Quarter. Paul Joyce, construction senior project manager, noted there is a lot of regeneration taking place in the Kings Cross area at the moment.
He added this development is a sign the London commercial market is moving in the right direction. The expert went on to note Bam - which is also responsible for a £90 million new wing for Great Ormond Street Hospital - is happy to be part of kick-starting the economy by being involved in such projects.
