Ealing Council boosts cycling with pop-up shop
Ealing Council is encouraging more people to get healthy this summer and cycle, with a new pop-up bike shop. The temporary shop will be open this weekend and through the rest of the summer. The council has teamed up with London Bike Hub to deliver this new project.
The bike shop will offer people the opportunity to have a free bike check and have maintenance performed for free by Doctor Bike. Shoppers will also be able to buy second-hand bikes as well as accessories. The bike will be open every Saturday and is being run by the not-for-profit organisation, London Bike Hub. The shop itself is to be opened inside one of South Road's converted shipping containers.
This is the latest step by Ealing Council to encourage residents to ride their bikes. It is being delivered by the direct support for cycling scheme that is run by the council and gives people advice on a wide range of cycling related issues that residents may encounter. The scheme has also launched several other projects, including the free guided bike rides for women around the Southall area.
The council hopes to introduce residents to new areas of the borough that they may not have visited before, as well as give safety advice. The new bike shop will help those who are new to cycling find the bike and other items that are right for their needs, at an affordable cost.
The South Road pop-up bike shop will open from 10am to 4pm each Saturday throughout the summer, with an official opening on Saturday July 13th.
Residents that are interested in starting to cycle are able to book in for cycle training through the council website. This training will help to build new cyclists' confidence by teaching them all the safety aspects they need to bare in mind for city cycling. Training is being made available for all levels of ability and is free for any unemployed residents.
