Ealing Council bolsters local safety with new lighting
Residents of flats to rent in Ealing are to benefit from improved local security thanks to the addition of new lights in a number of key areas.
Ealing Council will be investing £70,000 to install new lights at Dean Gardens in West Ealing, the footpath between Church Road and Godfrey Avenue in Northolt and Bond Street alleyway in Ealing.
These areas were chosen following a survey into the need for new lighting fixtures, with this initiative being rolled out in accordance with promises made in a recent council manifesto pledge.
Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, cabinet member for transport and environment, said this move will help residents to walk confidently through the area without the fear of crime.
"The programme to renew our street lighting six years ago has made people feel much safer on our streets and this new additional investment will go that extra step in improving safety," he added.
Last week, the local authority launched a new scheme aimed at helping people get out and about this winter, offering a £40 voucher to residents who choose to keep cycling throughout the colder months.
