Ealing Council approves £155m redevelopment scheme
A £155 million regeneration scheme is set to get underway in Ealing, it has been reported, with full approval by the borough council.
Planning permission has been granted to housing association A2Dominion and regeneration specialist Rydon for the construction of 187 homes.
The plans are part of a second phase of redevelopment works taking place on the Green Man Lane estate in the borough.
Three apartment buildings will be built on the estate, along with 28 three-storey houses, some of which will be classified as affordable.
In a statement, David Price, A2Dominion regeneration director, said: "This planning consent signals a new major milestone in the development of the Green Man Lane estate.
"With the first phase nearing completion, the regeneration project is already beginning to transform this run-down 1970s estate and we look forward to progressing with this exciting next stage to deliver even more high quality homes."
The wider plans for the scheme gained approval in 2010 and will see the building of 700 new homes across four phases, along with a community café, enterprise units, green spaces and play areas.
The first stage of the initiative is yet to be completed and is projected to start next year, with the building of 176 homes.
But the regeneration work is not the only scheme taking place in the borough. Ealing Council is also supporting National Empty Properties Week and is urging owners of empty properties to get them back into use.
Under an initiative created by the council, owners of homes which have been left empty and are in need of work, could qualify for a grant of up to £30,000 in some cases.
In return, owners of those properties would then be required to let them out at an affordable rent for five years.
