Bid to make London more cycle-friendly
Architects have been urged to come up with new designs to help make London more cyclist-friendly.
Cycle to Cannes charity and the London Cycling Campaign (LCCC) have both called for new plans to help make the capital a better place to be on a bike.
They made the call ahead of the 21st September freewheel bike ride in Central London.
LCCC director Koy Thompson said: "We're not trying to expel car drivers. We're trying to turn streets into shared spaces where the traffic slows down, making the street much more pleasant to use for pedestrians and cyclists."
He cited Kensington High Street as one location where work has already been done to create a better environment for those on two wheels by the removal of unnecessary obstacles.
Keen cyclists in London include Mayor Boris Johnson.
Those who enjoy getting in the saddle can make the most of one benefit of living in London next month.
Earl's Court will stage the Cycle Show 2008 from October 9th to 12th, Cycling Weekly reports, which means millions of Londoners will be within riding distance of the event.
