Beckenham town centre's £3.2m regeneration moves forward
A public consultation has been launched to gauge local opinion about a plan for a major renovation of Beckenham town centre by the London Borough of Bromley Council.
The proposals, which are focused on the area around Beckenham High Street, are expected to cost around £3.2 million. The money will be provided by a partnership between the council and Transport for London.
Pete Morgan, Bromley’s executive councillor for renewal and recreation, said: “We have been working closely with key stakeholders from the town and have now prepared our initial concept designs. We now want to hear from residents, businesses and others so if you are interested come along to our exhibition event or visit our website to view the plans. We are committed to improving Beckenham town centre and encouraging new investment to the historic area, which will support its future vibrancy.”
The design was created to make improvements while still maintaining and enhancing the village ethos that makes Beckenham distinctive. There was also a strong impetus to ensure that the architectural features will be in keeping with the surroundings. So-called ‘road clutter’ will be removed to ensure that access to the town centre will not be impeded and to speed up the progress of traffic through the area.
The consultation on the project will run until March 27th, with the conceptual designs available to view on the council’s website, as well as at a public exhibition from 11:30am to 8pm on March 12th at Citygates Church to display the full range of conceptual designs by architects to the local community.
Residents who want to take part in the consultation will be able to submit their views online or by post.
