Barking & Dagenham council calls for greater business collaboration
Barking and Dagenham Council has reached out to local businesses in the area and urged them to take advantage of growth opportunities in the borough.
Firms in the region have been encouraged to work more collaboratively with the council, to enhance the provision given to local residents and community groups.
Speaking at the Barking and Dagenham Chamber of Commerce Autumn evening reception, council leader, Darren Rodwell outlined the authority's vision and growth agenda for the borough.
He said: "Barking and Dagenham is London’s growth opportunity, a blank canvas and as a council we welcome the investment into our borough and encourage responsible business owners as partners.
“We are a pro-business council and in the current economic climate we cannot do or be everything to everyone so whether they live, work or own a business in the borough it will be a pleasure to work together as one borough, one community.”
According to figures released by Porge Research, Barking and Dagenham ranked as the second in the top ten councils in a report entitled ‘Total spend by councils in 2013-14'.
It revealed that the local authority spent a total of £335.2 million on its top 25 suppliers from April 2013 to March 31st 2014.
Councillor Rodwell also called upon the business community to "play an active role" in the borough by supporting some of the local activities planned in 2015.
He added: "I want to encourage local businesses to work closely with residents and community groups so that we can all together take pride in the borough, create jobs and take advantage of the many opportunities available to grow our area."
