Barking and Dagenham Council to take repairs in-house
Tenants in Barking and Dagenham could see their home repairs carried out in a quick manner going forward.
This is because Barking and Dagenham Council has decided to take such measures in-house after a decade of leasing the work out to companies.
It means from April 2013 the local authority will be responsible for the upkeep of its properties and this may interest anyone seeking flats to rent in Barking.
Councillor Phil Waker, cabinet member for housing, noted "careful consideration" went in to making the decision, but the new arrangement should be more cost-effective for the local authoirity.
"We want to create a service where the majority of repair and maintenance work is done in-house, with flexible support provided by external contractors," he added.
It is hoped leaseholders will benefit from the move, as it means they no longer have to worry about dealing with external contractors when a problem arises.
