Works on Bromley North Village underway
The final stages of the Bromley North Village improvements are underway, it has been revealed.
Bromley Council revealed that work on the £5.5 million scheme is nearing completion, with diversions currently in place.
The council claims that the project will help to improve the area and provide an economic boost.
Commenting on the developments, Councillor Peter Morgan, executive councillor for Renewal and Recreation, said that although there will be some delays, once finished, the work will make the historic area of Bromley a much nicer one to visit.
He added: "We are already encouraged to see new businesses opening, footfall increasing and the outdoor restaurant seating being a real hit in East Street. These extensive improvements underline our commitment to improving the town centre and ensuring people continue to shop, trade and spend time in Bromley North."
Works on East Street have already been completed, with new granite paving, lamp columns, trees and outdoor seating.
There is also ongoing work in Market Square and Bromley North High Street. The council announced that works on the pedestrianised area of Market Square is almost complete.
In June, the Thames Water work that replaced the major water mains in the area was completed.
The entire scheme covers Market Square, High Street North and East Street areas of Bromley town centre.
It is set to include new paving, lights, more trees and new street furniture.
A new library was also built in the area, following completion of works to relocate the building to Green Lane in the heart of the town centre.
The facility will provide more community space, additional computers and a wide selection of books.
