Shepherds Bush Market to be regenerated
The Shepherds Bush Market regeneration scheme has been given the green light.
It means the area will get a complete facelift that will hopefully revitalise it. Developer Orion Shepherds Bush will be handed the task of bring the site up-to-date, as the initial design from 100 years ago no longer shows the location in its best light.
As a result of the move, anyone considering leasing flats to rent in Shepherds Bush will see the quality of offerings improved.
A spokesman for Hammersmith and Fulham Council observed this is an "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity" for the market and surrounding area to be enhanced. "It will increase retail expenditure by more than £3 million a year and will create numerous new jobs," he added.
The representative went on to note the vast majority of residents support the measures, while some of the traders have been given a fantastic deal, especially those located on Goldhawk Road.
Several new market squares will be constructed under the terms of the project, while additional properties are to be built. There is also going to be provisions for pop-up shops and temporary trading zones, while cuisine from different countries will be made available.
Aslam Malik of Moon Foods Cash and Carry said: "I have been in the market for 29 years and it is in desperate need of regeneration if it is going to survive. All of the traders here are looking forward to the future now that these plans have been approved - it is really excellent news."
Simon Waller, sales manager at Winkworth on Uxbridge Road, added there is a general feeling that Shepherds Bush is now becoming a hot place to live. This is evidenced by the fact people are starting to choose the location over areas such as Holland Park and Notting Hill.
He went on to note the regeneration is actually what is needed as for too long the destination has been in a poor state.
