Renowned artist to create sculptures for new Bexley public square
People staying in flats to rent in Bexley are to see internationally renowned artist Andy Scott create sculptures for a new public square in Crayford.
The sculptor has been commissioned to design two pieces, entitled Propella and Captain Crayford, which will become key parts of the new Crayford Town Hall-backed development.
Mr Scott's designs will honour the strong aviation history associated with the area by recreating images associated with engineering and armaments firm Vickers, a major employer in Crayford during the first world war.
The sculptures were chosen following consultation involving more than 700 residents, with 40 per cent of the public voting for Mr Scott's idea.
"I am absolutely delighted to have been appointed to carry out this exciting commission and can't wait to get started," said the artist.
Last month, Bexley Council held events showcasing plans to create 380 new homes in the Slade Green area, which were attended by around 200 people.
