Oakmere Park gets outdoor gym installed
An outdoor gym has been installed in Potters Bar to encourage more people to be physically active.
Oakmere Park in Potters Bar now boasts a sit-up bench, a power bike, two free runners, a cross trainer, an upper body trainer and a body flexer after three fitness stations were set up. Some £12,000 was spent on the project and funding came from Hertsmere Together.
Individuals seeking flats to rent in Potters Bar may be interested in this scheme. The decision was taken to develop the area after Hertsmere Council identified a lack of facilities in the park as a problem.
Aaron Niblett, area parks officer for the local authority, said: "This new outdoor gym is a fantastic addition to an already excellent park and something that should be fun to use and keep everyone fit.
"Promoting a healthy and active lifestyle is a priority of Hertsmere Borough Council. Staying active and healthy isn't something you should just do when you are young, but at every age."
Gill Connell - from the Friends of Oakmere Park group - labelled the development as a "great addition". She added plenty of people will take advantage of the facilities, especially if the sun is shining. The open space is a previous winner in the Green Flag Awards, which reward the best green locations in the UK. In 2010-11, some 1,200 recreational areas were recognised.
A £3,800 gym has also been added in Borehamwood to Aycliffe Park after locals requested the services. It means residents in the borough will have plenty of opportunities in the summer to exercise.
As well as this, the council is working on the Greenspace Action Plan for Aycliffe Park. This will outline how the green space will be a sustainable habitat for wildlife and also serve the local community at the same time. A thorough litter pack, a paint job on the railings and the removal of flytipping has already begun.
