London crime rate falling, figures show
Crime in London is at its lowest point for ten years, it has been found.
Those choosing flats to rent in Shoreditch may find that the streets are safer, as a range of offences have declined across the capital.
Metropolitan Police statistics indicated that gun crime fell 26 per cent between April 2008 and March of this year, while youth violence is down ten per cent and knife crime has dipped by 13 per cent.
Welcoming the improvements, Mayor Boris Johnson remarked: "Londoners want a safer city
we will not tolerate any violence in any part of our capital and we are taking action to confront it in all its forms."
Overall, 18,000 fewer offences were recorded in 2008-09, contributing to lowest crime levels seen in the metropolis for a decade.
A recent report by the Greater London Alcohol and Drug Alliance revealed that drug use among youngsters is declining, with the number aged 16 to 24 who took decline falling by a third over the course of two years.
