Improvements to Crystal Palace underway
A number of improvements are expected to get underway in Crystal Park Palace, as part of a a £2.4 million improvement programme.
The facility, based in the London borough of Bromley is set to undergo a number of changes, with developments set to be made to the landscape and built heritage in Crystal Palace Park, in addition to upgrades to visitor facilities.
These improvements are being financed by the Mayor of London and Bromley Council.
In addition, a Community Projects Fund is being established that will facilitate grants to community groups with aspirations to deliver specific projects and activities in the park that require funding.
The first stage of the work is expected to be completed in spring next year, while the various projects established under the scheme will start to be delivered from summer 2015 onwards depending on the results of the initial feasibility stage.
Commenting on the findings, Richard Blakeway, deputy mayor for Land and Planning, said: “The Mayor is committed to creating a bright future for Crystal Palace Park working in partnership with Bromley Council. We are delighted that, following consultation locally, we have been able to identify a raft of improvements set to benefit park users.”
In addition, progress has also been made on the Crystal Palace Subway, with technical investigations carried out at the site by contractors Donald Insall Associates.
The work is expected to completed by December 2014 and has been partially funded by English Heritage, who contributed 50 per cent of the costs.
Councillor Stephen Carr, leader of Bromley Council, welcomed the developments and said that negotiations with some of the contractors are still ongoing.
He added: "This is good news for the park which demonstrates Bromley Council’s absolute determination to bring about long term improvements to the park. We are enormously grateful for the on-going support that local groups and residents have given us and we will continue to work with local people going forwards.”
