Bromley to retain school lollipop crossing services
Families in flats to rent in Bromley will welcome news that lollipop school crossing patrol services are set to be retained across many parts of the borough.
At least half of the traditional crossing services are to be preserved after schools hosting 28 of the 48 patrols agreed to take on the responsibility of paying for them.
Under the new arrangements, schools will fund the salaries of the crossing wardens themselves, while Bromley Council's contractor will continue to be responsible for providing training, equipment and insurance.
Colin Smith, Bromley's executive councillor for the environment, said the council is also working with schools that have yet to agree to the proposals to find alternative solutions.
"We are extremely heartened and grateful that so many schools have agreed to join with us in partnership and help fund and preserve this service as best we can between us," he added.
Earlier this month, the authority gave the go-ahead to a new application for funding to extend the local Bromley Museum with additional facilities and augmented exhibition space.
