Bromley North Village is all set to begin a new improvement scheme
Improvements throughout Bromley's public areas and streets are set to begin by the end of July. The Bromley North Village public realm scheme will be making £5.2 million worth of improvements to the town in a bid to improve the local economy.
The scheme aims to build upon ongoing long-term developments throughout the town in an effort to provide a number of improvements to the public areas and streets of the historic area. The initial works are set to begin on July 29th throughout East Street, before heading into the northern section of the High Street at the start of August. Works will continue throughout 2013 and are set to be completed before Christmas next year.
Councillor Peter Morgan, executive councillor for renewal and recreation, said: "This is fantastic news for the town centre and we are committed to doing all we can to ensure people want to shop, trade and spend time in the town centre in these difficult times. This year is already proving to be critical with a number of exciting projects underway that will ultimately drive forward our long term vision to Build a Better Bromley and the competitiveness of our town."
Plans are to minimise disruption to traffic and any inconvenience to residents as much as possible whilst the work is ongoing. Plans are to create several different diversion routes to make travel throughout the town easy for the public.
The scheme will see a number of improvements take place throughout the East Street, Market Square and High Street areas of the town centre, which will improve safety and appeal. It is planned that more trees will be planted throughout these areas and that new lights and pavement surfaces will be put in place.
There will also be a new pedestrian exit added to The Hill car park to reduce the number of people having to walk down the Northern section of High Street. It is hoped that the new exit will increase trade and footfall for local businesses, whilst also encouraging new businesses and shops to open in the area.
